9 IMPORTANT VIDEO TRENDS FROM MASS MEDIA EXPO 2016

1. Mobile Internet use just passed desktop use last week. This means, the concept of  ‘mobile first’ is no longer a suggested idea with air quotes but a concrete necessity for any business. Link

2. Since 2011 users are now consuming 9 hours less TV but are on the Internet a heck of a lot more. (If we all had TVs in our bathrooms, I feel like that wouldn’t have happened. Just saying.)

3. Vertical and horizontal video capturing and playback is now interchangeable so you no longer have to worry about recording videos the wrong way again, Mom.

4. Snapchat video messaging is taking the place of text messaging. So saying ‘snap me’ will soon become a thing. Yup.

5. Brands are deciding between running ads vs. creating their own content. The best example of the latter I’ve seen so far – Chipotle’s  weekly Snapchat Guac Talk

6. Most mobile viewers are on the go and won’t be able to hear the content their viewing so it’s now a necessity for videos to be very graphic and title heavy.

7. Viewing pre-produced video is becoming less of a crowd favorite due to Facebook Live taking over the video-sharing platform. It now allows users to integrate live streaming into third-party apps and devices.  That means the options for how and where and who can Facebook Live are just about endless.

8. Inventions need to evolve. (not really a trend but a good reminder)

9. Teens have more brand recognition with Youtube stars than Hollywood stars. So if you don’t know who Bethany Mota is, then it’s time to see what the cool kids … and cool brands are subscribing to.
